Project Vision 12/2012 - Step Seven: Take a Class

by Tina

This is part seven in a ten part series called Project Vision: 12/2012.  Get in touch with your innate skills and turn it into a dream job or business.  Or just do it for the love of it and see where it takes you.

If you feel stuck when searching for your passion, - try taking a class.  It doesn't have to be costly.  It can even be free!  Check your local newspapers, community college, and best of all (in my opinion) there are a TON of FREE online classes that you can attend.

Taking a class that peaks your interest will help you kick start your field of interest and help you hone in on the things you love.

I started taking a couple of on-line photography courses.  Some resonated more than others, some teachers I liked better than others.   I realized that the classes that really captivated me enabled me to understand myself better.  That's when you know you've hit a chord somehow.

My husband always had an interest in playing the guitar.  He played when he was in college but once he graduated and started working, his rock band days ceased.  Flash forward several decades later and his interest in guitar became a reality and he's been taking lessons and improving immensely.  Between live classes he mixes it with online classes of which there are plenty on YouTube.  It's amazing what people are willing to share on-line for free.

The great aspect of taking a class in person is you can make connections with other people who have a similar interest.  Those connections can be great leads for jobs, ideas and friendships.  Even with online classes you have the opportunity to form friendships.  I have a bunch of friends from all over the world through Facebook and social networking communities.

So, next time you feel you need to kick start your area of interest, consider taking a class.  If it's not for you, you'll at least eliminate that off your list and can try the next field of interest.

What class have you taken lately?
