A New Do

This week I got a haircut.  My stylist Tommy from Legend's Salon and my good friend Tanya, convinced me that it was time to change it up a bit.  I've been going there for 4 years and basically get the same cut each time--which I love.  They tried to convince to cut a good 4 inches off my locks but that was not going to fly.  I'm one of those gals who is in her  40's and is trying to hang on to her youth by having long hair.

After looking through countless magazines for style ideas, I settled on the suggestion of getting bangs. "Look how adorable this is." Tanya said pointing to a grumpy looking gal with short bangs in the hair magazine.  Despite the model's sourpuss, it did look cute.  The badgering coaxing worked and I let him cut my bangs to just above my eyebrow.  I figured at least I now had something to cover my furrowed brow and this was cheaper than Botox.

Now I realize that this is not as drastic as getting a pixie cut, but for me it was a big deal.  I have not had short bangs since the early 90's (back when I was still perming my hair).   I was excited to go home and see  if my kids and husband would even notice my new do.

My 9 year old sons noticed right away.    N. said "You look like you are at least in your thirties."  and A. said "Wow, mommy you like like you are in college."

I was feeling younger by the minute but this was where the compliments came to an end.

My daughter then came home from school and her comments were not as flattering.

"I don't like it, it looks weird." she said and then continued by saying, "I'm glad you got bangs first because now I know I don't want them."

Uh, great.  Thanks for the no holds bar feedback!

As for my hubby, he thought it looked "cute."  He at least knows to be more careful with his choice of words.
