Overheard in the Car: What do YOU Want to Be When You Grow Up?

Sometimes I enjoy the retelling of a conversation even more than actually being there.  The way my husband retells stories is great - like the conversation he overheard between my youngest daughter and one of her BFFs.

The three of them were on their way to soccer practice, my husband being the assistant coach.  The two girls started talking about what they wanted to be when they grew up, based on a homework assignment that day at school.

The conversation went like this:

BFF: "So, what did you put down if you couldn't be a teacher?"
Daughter: "An actor"
BFF: "Oh, uh huh, that makes sense"
Daughter: "What did you put down?
BFF: "What did I put down if I couldn't be a teacher?"
Daughter: "Yeah"
BFF: "A Biologist, or a lawyer, or a politician - I'm sort of into the whole justice thing"
Daughter: "Oh"
BFF: "I also think being an administrative assistant to a CEO would be fun.  You get to write notes and use that phone.  But my mom would say I could be the CEO!"
Daughter: "Yeah.  Using that phone and writing notes would be fun.  Like in the show "The Office"".
BFF:  "Yeah, my brother wants to work for Dundler Mifflin"

I don't know if you had to be there to really savor the simplicity and hilarity of the moment.  Gearing up for soccer: Shoes, $39.99, Registration, $125.00, - conversation in the car on the way to soccer?  Priceless!

  1. Although I'm sure this is one of those "you had to be there" moments - still very funny!

Hey, if you'd like to branch out a bit and share a story over on my site let me know - we'd love to post one!
