Bay Area Writing Project: Summer 2013 University of Berkeley

Parent Grapevine is excited to introduce you to the Bay Area Writing Project, which is a collaborative program of the University of California at Berkeley and Bay Area schools that is dedicated to improving writing and teaching of writing at all grade levels and in all disciplines.

Each year, close to 4,000 teachers participate in BAWP summer and school-year programs. BAWP's commitment to the professional growth of teachers is key to the high-level of interest by classroom teachers and to their enduring support.

This summer, BAWP will also be hosting their annual Young Writers' Camp at 6 different locations around the Bay Area. The camps offer children and youth entering grades 3 through 9 (grade levels differ slightly by camp location) a unique opportunity to develop their writing talents and creative abilities. In a supportive camp atmosphere, students receive specific writing instruction and encouragement to build and reinforce their writing skills. The camp supports and inspires young writers as they discover their unique voices and hone their confidence and skills, all while having fun and making new friends!

For many years, BAWP has been working very hard in the community to reach out to students and evoke their full potential while also encouraging teachers to develop their teaching practices. One of their goals at BAWP is to spread more awareness about who they are and what they do.

The Young Writers' Camp is quickly approaching so be sure to check it out now.
