I´m on vacation in Spain right now and rather than walk the streets and see more amazing, historical sites, I´ve taken a quick break to write up a blog post--crazy, huh?
I intended to unplug while on vacation, but I´m finding that catching up on emails or Facebook is a great way to escape the heat---that or a nap.
Today it is 40 celcius or 104 Farenheit! So skipping the heat to blog is a great way to pass the time.
I now understand why siestas are a necessity in Espana and my husband and I have easily and quickly adapted to this routine. It is so crazy hot by 2 p.m. that you need to go in and take a snooze. Which is why everyone stays up late. They´ve napped for 3 hours and now everyone is socializing into the wee hours. Dinner at 10 is the norm. The restaurants are full with young and old, enjoying tapas and sangria (again, we quickly adapted to this way of life).
Despite the heat, we are having a fantastic time. This country is beautiful and rich in history. We have seen amazing sites like the Cathederal in Seville(the 3rd largest Cathederal in the world), the Mezquita in Cordoba (it was a former mosque which was taken over by the Christians who built a cathederal inside--blending two vastly different religions)and the Prado in Madrid.
We still 5 more days in this amazing country. We are off to Granada and then a night train to Barcelona--where we heard it is only in the 80´s--hooray!
But don´t be surprised if you see another post from me. If you do, you´ll know it was one caliente dias.
Adios......
