California Academy of Sciences Nightlife--A Fun Night Out

by Kristina

If you are looking for something out of the ordinary to do with your spouse or group of friends, then you should check out the California Academy of Sciences Nightlife.

Every Thursday night (for ages 21+),  you can explore the museum while sipping cocktails and listening to music.  Each week features a band or DJ and a unique theme.... upcoming installments include sketchfest comedy, beer sampling, and robots---how fun!!

I went with my husband last week for a date night and loved every minute of it.   We enjoyed our cocktails (cranberry mojitos, yum!) as we roamed through all of the exhibits (while listening to the dj pumping club style music throughout the halls --it was actually good).   The crowd was mixed...young and old, couples and groups.  A friend of mine asked if it was a big singles scene and while I noticed a fair number of twentysomethings, it didn't feel like a pick up joint.

The tickets are only $12 and $10 for members, which is a fraction of the regular admission price of $29.95.   Passes to the planetarium show are available on a first come first serve basis and I recommend you get them as soon as you enter the museum (we didn't so we missed out).

Cocktails ranged from $8-$12.  We had dinner in the Academy Cafe which was very reasonably priced and tasty.  I had shrimp spring rolls and my husband had the yummy pork tacos--not your typical fried food fare.   There is also fine dining available in The Moss Room.

I had not been to the California Academy of Sciences since it reopened (we were members back in the day when we lived just blocks away) and I was completely amazed and impressed by this beautiful museum. Visiting it at the Nightlife event was a great way to see and experience all this museum (the aquarium, natural history, rainforest, and planetarium) has to offer without the crowds and in a fun, adult kind of way.
